HSE research demonstrates that the key to successful reduction in work related stress is the day to day behaviour of those managers closest to staff. While many managers have gained promotion by progressing through roles of increasing technical or professional competency, their new managerial roles demand even greater skills in managing people particularly in style and communication. Many managers feel vulnerable and unqualified in these more personal interactions with their staff.
Furthermore there is strong evidence in the research to show that additional time invested in the training of managers, especially in face to face situations, results in improved employees’ perception of their well being and their work environment and more engaged relationship with their manager engenders improved social attachment to the organisation, improves output and reduces absenteeism.
The Vi²dus Managers Development Programme addresses the key skills required by today’s managers enabling them to develop their own personal resources to effectively manage both the day to day operation and the people for whom they are responsible.
The research shows that those managers practising a transformational leadership or management style have more responsive and motivated teams with less stress related absence. Vi²dus can offer a six day programme that will cover all aspects of management and provide a sound basis for any professional qualification up to level 7.
"It was necessary that HR professionals and managers have an informed understanding of what stress is but also that they understand the skills, abilities and behaviours needed to implement the Management Standards and manage their staff in a way that minimises work-related stress”.
